Coach Rawalpindi Pakistan's injured players will take pride in their dead rubber against Bangladesh on Thursday, head coach Aqib Javed said, after knocking the hosts out of the Champions Trophy in the group stage.

After defeats to New Zealand and India, the defending champions’ hopes of reaching the semifinals were dashed, and their final Group A match in Rawalpindi became irrelevant.

Rain washed out the Australia-South Africa match in Group B on Tuesday, and further rain is expected on Thursday, putting Pakistan’s net run rate at risk and potentially dropping them to fourth place.

Regardless of the outcome, this will be a disappointing result for Pakistan, who were hosting a major international cricket tournament for the first time in three decades.

On Wednesday, Aqib said, “There are no excuses, there shouldn’t be in life, but I assure you, the players are more hurt than the fans and they want to leave their mark in the final match.”

After losing to New Zealand and India, the defending champions' hopes of making it to the semifinals were shattered, leaving their final Group A match in Rawalpindi meaningless.

Rain caused the Australia-South Africa match in Group B to be canceled on Tuesday, and more rain is predicted for Thursday, which could hurt Pakistan's net run rate and push them to fourth place.

No matter what happens, this will be a disappointing outcome for Pakistan, as it is their first time hosting a major international cricket tournament in three decades.

Aqib said on Wednesday, “There are no excuses, there shouldn’t be in life, but I can assure you the players are more hurt than the fans and they are determined to leave a mark in the final match.”
